The Italians didn't like complicated turrets, like the French constructed. They built a very simple turret armed with a 75 mm gun. It was 30 cm thick and was very hard to hit. However due to the high costs they were only installed in very strategic areas. This is the case for the Colle di Moncenisio as it was the shortest road from France to Turin, a very important industrial city.
