Although the Vallo Alpino was constructed in moutaineous terrain only a few works had mortars in permanent positions. One of them is Opera 4 near Sares. It had four 81 mm mortars in two separate positions. These positions were quite primitive. As you can see the embrasure is huge and gives little protection against counter-fire.
