All valleys in Northern Italy were closed with AT ditches, each defended by several casemates. The ditch near Braies still remains in a good condition without much vegetation. The idea was that the tank driver could hardly see the anti-tank wall. When the tank would be stopped near the wall it would be a sitting duck for the AT guns.
