One of the four turrets of the northern battery
One of the four turrets of the northern battery. Originally the turrets had short 10,5 cm guns, because the battery was exposed to enemy fire. During the Interbellum the French replaced the guns with long reinforced barrels that had a longer range. This is the only barrel that survived the destructions of 1944/'45. The Americans, fearing that the Germans would re-occupy the work, blew up most barrels.
