A 7,5 cm gun model 1903 in the Batterie de l'Hermitage.
In 1903 the 7,5 cm gun becamse the standard gun of the Swiss field artillery. It was obvious that it also became the main gun in the Swiss forts. In the case of Hermitage the barrel and recoil system were identical to those of the field guns. The guns had to cover the narrow passage west of Saint Maurice. On the left you can see a cable which was used to lower the camouflage of the casemate.

The 7,5 cm gun was a design of Krupp. Many countries, ranging from Italy to Romania and the Netherlands, bought these guns which were adapted to suit the buyer's requirements. However the mounting was an indigenous design. It was an ingenious construction which was quite simple, but nevertheless allowed a small embrasure. This type of mounting was also used for the 10,5 cm guns and howitzers. The fortress guns were all equipped with a sight for direct fire which you can see on top of the barrel.
