Waldbrand was origally armed with six 10,5 cm guns. The idea was that an retreating artilley unit could occupy the work and install their field guns in Waldbrand. However these guns had to be pulled to the casemates by truck. Here the barrels would be removed and installed on the fortress mounting. To allow the passage of the trucks and the guns the galleries were very large. However after World War Two the work was modernised and special fortress barrels assigned to the work. Therefore the large galleries were no longer needed. A part was converted into sleeping quarters for the crew. Here you can see the third floor which is slightly curved to follow the gallery.
