When the Germans conquered Strasbourg in 1870 they started to improve the citiy's defenses. This included not only the construction of several forts, but also of new remparts. Here you can see the caponier of one the gates in these remparts, the Kriegstor (War gate). It is sad to say that this is one of the few remains of the system.
