A blockhouse just a few hundred meters from the border with Belgium
One of the blockhouses north of Lille. This one is located near Halluin, just a few hundred meters from the border with Belgium. Lille was already at that time one of the most important towns in France, especially because of the extensive metal industry. To protect the town as much as possible a line of blockhouses was constructed here between 1937 and 1940. This line was also reinforced by the English who built here their own pillboxes.
