When designing the IJssellinie after World War Two it was expected that the Russians would attack the line with massive forces of infantry, supported by large numbers of tanks and artillery. However at the same time the line had to be inexpensive. That's why the designers choose to install old tanks in concrete blocks. The position of Olst was the only one to receive Canadian Ram tanks. The main armament was removed and replaced by a single machine-gun. This turret was removed a few years ago to be restored. It has been installed in another position. |
