After World War Two the Netherlands feared a nuclear attack. This would destroy all the important installations, including the communication. However these were needed very hard in case of war. That's why a serie of nuclear shelters was constructed after the war. These could be used to provide the communications during the war. The television studios in Hilversum also got such a shelter. In case of war the broadcasts were made from this shelter. However this shelter was less flashy than the nearby studios. Here you can see the bicycles that could be used to provide fresh air during a power-cut. This was a common feature in Dutch shelters. Because of its size the shelter in Hilversum had two tandems. You can ask yourself who would see the broadcasts after an all-destroying atomic attack.
