An view on the central barracks of the fort
The design of Fort Alvensleben was very classical. The center of the fort was occupied by these large barracks. On top of them were open positions for field guns. You can still see some of the shelters for the gun crew. After 1885, the year of the introduction of the chemical explosives, the fort was modernized by the adittion of a concrete layer on most buildings. At the same time most of the guns were placed in open batteries outside the fort.
