The western infantry work was the nerve center of this Feste. In fact it provided most of the infantry defense for the front of the Feste. Its armament included four 77 mm guns in two flanking casemates. These were used to defend the barbed wire. Here you can see the left casemate. Typical for the German forts is the search ligth on the left.
