Loncin is one of the most famous forts around Liege. It was destroyed by a large explosion in the powder magasin. Officially this explosion was caused by a 42 cm shell that penetrated the magasin. However there is some contreversy about this explaination. It a strange that very few officers were killed in the explosion whereas the entire command post was destroyed. During the commemoration in 1923 general Leman was absent while he had his command post in the fort when it exploded in 1914.
