The rear of the battery
Rivolto is one of the forts that defended the important bridges of Codroipo. The fort was built in the period 1909-1914. It shares many characteristics of the Italian forts of those days. In fact it just consists of a long building with six 149 mm gun turrets made by the French company Schneider and four flanking 75 mm guns. The infantry defense was provided by retractable MG turrets. However the fort played no role in World War One. In 1915 the guns were removed to be used on the front. When the Italian army was in full retreat in 1917 the fort was abandoned. After the war it was used as an ammunition dump. Only a few year ago the fort was abandoned.
