A part of the rifle gallery
The terrain around Forte di Ospedaletto wasn't a big obstacle for the attacking infantry. To improve the infantry defense the fort was equipped with a rifle gallery running on three sides of the fort. Like all the forts of those days it was made of non-reinforced concrete. Until 1917 the fort was behind the front. However when the Austrian-Hungarians attacked the fort was abandoned. That is why the rifle gallery has survived in such a good condition.
