One of the crew members of the Feste Luitpold was the painter Willy Reue (1893-1962) which become famous after the war. He spent his time decorating the fort with several beautiful art works. This one shows the DSD Kronprinz Wilhelm, one of the four large steamers of the Norddeutsche Lloyd. The 202,8 m. long vessel could carry 1.761 passengers at a speed of 22 knots, making it one of the fastest vessels of its days. The DSD Kronprinz Wilhelm became famous for her 251 day long cruise in 1914/1915 during which she sank 14 ships. She finished her cruise in the United States where she was interned before being used as a troop ship by the Americans. The vessel was scrapped in 1923.
