The family weapon of Prinzregent Luitpold (1821-1912). It is the only weapon in such a good condition in Metz. All the others has been severly damaged. Luitpold Karl Joseph Wilhelm, Prinzregent von Bayern was a very popular in Bavaria during his reign between 1886 and 1913. It is quite astonishing that Luitpold ruled Bavaria while he was only the third son. However his brother Ludwig was declared mentally insane and his castle was converted into a private mental asylum. His second brother Otto was considered to be insane too, so Luitpold ruled in his place.
