The lower floor of the twin 155 mm retractable turret. This turret had a total weight of 550 tons. However with its ingenious system of three counter weights it took just two seconds to elevate the turret to its firing position. The third counter weight was necessary to 'launch' the turret, so it could fire and retract immediately.
