An overview of the destroyed fort
Charles-Félix was one of the five forts constructed between 1817 and 1834 to protect the small Kingdom Savoie. In 1860 the kingdom choose to join France. However a treaty with Piemonte, the eastern neighbour of Savoie, stipulated that the French had to destroyed fort Charles-Félix. Therefore the French artillery bombed the fort until only the ruins remained.
