An observation turret as was used in works all over the Vallo Alpino. The observation turret was usually not installed on a mountain top, because it would be too well visible and vulnerable. Instead they installed the turret in the slope, but this way it didn't need large view slits in the rear. Instead the slits in the rear can only be used with a pair of binoculars. However the three front slits can house a goniometer that was used to measure angles. To save metal the turret rear was thinner and less rounded.
