An overview of the shelter
The living conditions in the Alps are harsh, but even more for the soldiers who had to live here in the thirties. To improve their living conditions they built several shelters, ranging from simple prefabricated huts to strong concrete shelters. Moutière falls in the last category. It consisted of a long concrete vault divided into several rooms, each with their own entrance. The shelter has been covered with stone to obtain a better protection, but also to improve the insulation. The three doors in the foreground are the toilets.
