Around 1840 when the Austrian-Hungarians still held Venice, the city's defenses were still based on the forts built in the high days of the city. However in 1845 the construction of a new fort near the village Treporti started. Here you can see the front of the central reduit of the fort. The tower was later added by the Italians to direct the fire of their coastal batteries.
