Werk Mitterberg was built between 1885 and 1889 and is typical for the Austrian forts of t hat period. It was armed with three 12 cm in armoured casemates and three 15 cm mortar turrets. It also had 11 machine guns, from which one was installed in this armoured position in the rear of the fort. This had to cover the slope behind the fort. Mitterberg is one of the best preserved Austrian forts in Italy, so some of its armour still remains.
