Just before the surrender of the Fortress Antwerp the crew of the redoute Schilde blew up their defence work. The traditore battery was completely destroyed by the explosion. However this makes the redoute very interesting, because you can see the remains of the guns. Here one of the 7,5 cm guns. It consists of a large armoured plate on which the mounting is bolted. The plate was fixed in the wall with large screws. In 1914 the bolts of the mounting proved to be a weak points as they had to absorb all the recoil. In some cases the gun was projected into the firing room when the bolts had broke off.
