The traditore battery of the fort. Broechem was heavily bombarded during the German siege of Antwerp in 1914. The crew of the traditore battery must be one of the luckiest of the entire siege. During a bombardment the 12 cm turrets got into trouble and the commander ordered the crew to abandon their post. Using the central intercom he said 'Abandon the 12 cm guns'. However the crews of the 12 cm guns in the traditore battery also heart the order and left their guns. When they realised that they had misunderstood the order they returned to their position. But just before they enter the traditore battery the roof of one of the firing rooms was penetrated by a 420 mm shell. Fortunately no one was hurt by this hit.
