The primary task of St. Roch was the defense of a railway tunnel to Italy. Although the work consists of four blocks most of the armament is concentrated in block 4. It was armed with five twin MGs, one 75 mm gun and four 81 mm mortars. Because this block is located close to the road to Nice it hadn't the normal barbed wire, but a pre WW I style gate
